For a while a few of us web developers thought that with the advent of Facebook we would soon be considered obsolete as companies could now create and maintain their own FB presence. We even went on to learn FBML in order to create attractive custom FB pages. However, the strength of Facebook has become its weakness as the ease of creating and maintaining a presence has resulted in a flood of company pages. It is now therefore very difficult for your brand to stand out from the crowd.
In some cases it is very difficult to stand out from yourself. Many universities and organisations have found that over time they may have accumulated multiple “Official” pages (for one reason or the other) with visitors having no idea which is the “Real Official” page. As a result companies are now returning to conventional websites to preserve and market their brand identity.
Good news for conventional web developers.
